About The Learning CalendarIt all began on the wall...which is where every good calendar ought to end up...In the late 1970s, Claudia Black, a mother of nine, began filling up her walls with giant-sized homemade educational posters, such as "Country of the Week," "Animal of the Week", and a unique history-based activity calendar which she called "The Learning Calendar." The idea of The Learning Calendar soon blossomed into a book, which included trivia about each day in history, instructions for making your own wall calendar, and activity ideas for making learning fun. Claudia's creativity and unique teaching approach became so popular that she was invited to speak at Brigham Young University's Campus Education Week. Her class, appropriately titled "Subtle Teaching: I Learned it on the Wall," was noted as one of the most popular on campus. Over 20 years later, Claudia's daughter Laurie took the reigns and transitioned The Learning Calendar into an award-winning printed calendar and supporting website. In May of 2006, Fat Brain Toys acquired The Learning Calendar to further it's mission of history-based learning. Spark an interest in learning, increase your knowledge of intriguing facts, and understand more about the people and events that have shaped America and the world. It's easy when you hang history on your wall with The Learning Calendar!
